A note from Kristine, founder of the Gilmore Book Club

Kristine Eckart, Founder of the Gilmore Book Club

I will tell you about how the Gilmore Book club got its start and all about the Rory Gilmore Book List, but that will all come later. For now, I’ll leave you on a cliffhanger. Before I talk about the first book and the list, I want to say a few things.

This is a book club. A club that is a safe place to come together, to listen to different views, to understand how others think or feel, to share insights into why a book or a moment of Gilmore Girls affected you- for better or for worse. I’ll tell you my thoughts and feelings after reading a book, and you can tell me yours. The Gilmore Book Club is a place where you get to spend time with the characters from Gilmore Girls, the stories on the list, and members of the enormous shared community that are instantly with you every time you open a book-whether you feel their presence or not.

All the personal essays here are completely mine and contain my own opinions. Of course, I’ll be referring to other books and using quotes and will document and give credit to those sources.

If you’re going to complain about spoilers, I’m telling you now, you won’t be a big fan of this blog. The majority of the literature and all seven seasons of Gilmore Girls have been around long enough for the world to know their stories by now. If you don’t want to know about the Gilmore Girls final season, don’t read those posts until after you’ve read the books or seen the show.

This blog is about everything that happens both on the show and in these books, and in order to talk about that, I have to talk about everything. In order for any of it to make any sense, I have to explain it fully, and not omit the things that make an impact. I recognize that not everyone has seen Gilmore Girls or has read all of these books, and you don’t have to. I want this blog to include everyone regardless of if they know where the phrase “copper boom” originated from or not. (Gold star for you if you do!) That’s why this blog is going to be an open book- I’m not going to hide what happens from anyone.

The book list, though in alphabetical order, is not in order of the show, nor am I reading them in the order of the show. Even if I did read them in any order, that book may not have an impact on me until further on down the road.  And that’s life, my friends, things just don’t progress in nice, little user-friendly increments. So here's your warning: spoilers ahead.

Just in case you’re wondering, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life and the stories from that mini-series are not a part of this challenge, so you’ve got a few more years to read and watch accordingly before I make it to discuss anything that happens there.
